The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that protects the confidentiality of student educational records. It states that the institution will not disclose any personally identifiable information from those records without the written consent of the student. In order to release information to a parent or third party, the student will need to complete the Third Party (Proxy) Access Setup. Proxy access can ONLY be set up through UCONNECT.
Once an authorization has been added or removed, please allow 3 business days for processing.
In order to set up third party (proxy) access, you will need to:
- Log into UCONNECT
- Locate the Additional Contact Info card (If do not see it, use the Discover tool and search for “proxy”)
- Click Manage Proxy (3rd-Party) access to your account information link
- Click Add New icon
- Complete the form with required information.
- Passphrase is used when the proxy is contacting UCO by phone or in person. The proxy will be asked for the passphrase, and if they respond correctly, UCO will then be able to provide the designated information (as set up in the authorization).
- Authorizations are the information pages your proxy should be able to access. Once authorized, your proxy will be able to view and/or update these pages when they log in.
- To set up additional proxies, click on the Add New
- To remove a proxy authorization, click on Trash can icon below the proxy’s name.
