Think Before You Click!

Even with UCO’s sophisticated security measures, YOU are still the best defense again phishing email scams. Protect yourself and the University by following these simple steps:

  1. Recognize: Learn to identify potential phishing emails. Phishing emails duplicate the image, name or actual employee of a company or link to sites that are visually similar to a real business. So, verify the “sender” and “reply-to” email addresses are legitimate by double clicking the names to view the person’s real email address (feature not available on mobile devices).
  2. Rethink: If you are unable verify the sender, do not click any links in the email. Hover first to view and verify the actual URLs or go directly to trusted sites using official contact details.
  3. Recheck: Verify email rules in your settings to ensure they were created by you. And periodically change your password.
  4. Report: Contact the UCO Service Desk (servicedesk@uco.edu; 405-974-2255) or fill out a service request immediately if you think you have received a phishing email.
