Duo Phone Call Authentication Security Concerns

Duo provides two-factor authentication for all UCO accounts. Verifying your identity with a second factor, like a mobile device, helps prevent others from using your UCO account to log in, even if they know your password.

Duo authentication can be accomplished through the Duo Mobile app, via a hardware token, or with a telephone. However, security concerns with the telephone features are known to present a real risk to the security of your account. Therefore, UCO will be eliminating the landline and phone call options over the next month.

On June 1st, 2022, OIT will discontinue the ability to use the Duo telephone options for new and existing users. Those currently using telephone options will continue to have that ability through June 1st. OIT will communicate with telephony users over the next several weeks to ensure a smooth transition to the other authentication modes before retiring DUO telephone services on June 1st, 2022.
