Setting Up OneDrive Backup

Introduction

This article covers how to set up OneDrive for use and backups.

Windows PCs at UCO will automatically come with OneDrive installed and ready to be set up using the steps below. Apple Mac devices will need to first install OneDrive using the Jamf Self Service portal.


Windows PC Instructions

  1. Select the small cloud icon in the bottom right taskbar.Screenshot of Cloud Icon in Windows Task Bar
  2. A small window will pop up above the icon. Select “Sign in”.Screenshot of OneDrive Sign In
  3. Input your UCO email and password and approve the DUO prompt if prompted.Screenshot of OneDrive Setup
  4. Once it has authenticated, you should see the following screen. Select “Next”.Screenshot of OneDrive Setup - Part 2
  5. Here you may choose which folders to automatically back up. It is strongly recommended you leave all options checked and select “Start backup”.Screenshot of OneDrive Folder Sync Options
  6. OneDrive will then display a few helpful screens explaining some of its features. Read and click through when ready.
  7. Your OneDrive folder should now be visible in File Explorer and begin backing up automatically.Screenshot of OneDrive Folder View

Apple MacOS Instructions

  4. The application will then display a few helpful screens explaining some of the features of OneDrive. Read and click through when ready.
  5. To enable a full OneDrive backup, select the small cloud icon in the top right corner taskbar and then select the gear icon.Screenshot of MacOS OneDrive Backup Options

  8. Select “System Preferences”. If the right window does not automatically open, the option can be found in your device’s System Settings under Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access.Screenshot of MacOS OneDrive Disk Access
  9. Enable the toggle next to OneDrive to allow full disk access. Provide password and restart OneDrive if prompted.Screenshot of MacOS OneDrive Disk Access Toggle
  10. If the backup options window does not automatically pop up, navigate back to the “Backup” tab in OneDrive preferences and select “Manage Backup” again.
  11. Here you may choose which folders to automatically back up. It is strongly recommended you leave all options checked and select “Save changes”.Screenshot of MacOS OneDrive Folder Select
