Digital Accessibility

Service Overview

Digital accessibility ensures that university content is usable by individuals of all abilities and complies with state and federal guidelines, including WCAG 2.1 AA standards. While University Communications does not directly remediate accessibility issues, we support the university’s accessibility goals by helping identify concerns and referring content creators to appropriate resources.

Key Details

All digital content shared on university platforms — including webpages, PDFs, documents, graphics, and social media — must meet accessibility standards. While University Communications does not provide technical remediation, we offer basic guidance and awareness about common issues, such as:

  • Document formatting best practices
  • Use of alternative text for images
  • Proper heading structure and link usage
  • Color contrast and readability
  • Captioning or transcripts for multimedia

If issues are identified or accessibility concerns arise during review or consultation, content creators will be advised to correct the issue or directed to campus partners who may provide additional support.

What We Support

  • High-level accessibility reviews for digital materials
  • Referrals to university experts and training opportunities
  • Review of content submitted for brand, quality, and accessibility standards

Requests may be redirected to other campus units, such as Disability Support Services, the Office of Information Technology, or academic departments, depending on the nature of the assistance needed.
