Manage Your UCO Account Security Information

If you need to update your Central Alerts/Emergency Contact information - Go to Emergency Contact Information for UCO Accounts

Your Microsoft Security info page is where you manage the methods used to verify your identity for your UCO account. These methods help you sign in securely and verify your identity for account recovery.

You may have visited this page before to add a phone number or personal email address for Microsoft self-service password reset. You will use the same page to add Microsoft Authenticator or make changes to information you have already saved.

Start by signing in and reviewing what is listed. Keep information that is still correct, and add or update what you need.

Open your Security info

Sign in and review your methods

1. Sign in

Open Security info. Sign in with your UCO email address and current password if prompted. Complete the identity verification requested.

Enter your UCO email address and select Next.

2. Continue to your account

If asked whether to stay signed in, choose the option appropriate for the device you are using.

Choose whether to stay signed in on this device.

3. Review your methods

Review the methods already listed on Security info. Keep information that is correct, and add or update what you need.

Review your methods or select Add sign-in method.

If you already have an active sign-in session, some screens may be skipped. Whether you see several methods or only a few, this is the place to add or update your information.

Having trouble signing in? If you have forgotten your password, select Forgot my password on the sign-in screen and follow the recovery instructions. If your account is temporarily locked, wait 15 minutes and try again, or contact the UCO Service Desk. If it remains locked or is disabled, contact the Service Desk for assistance.

Add Microsoft Authenticator

Microsoft Authenticator is a free app for your phone or tablet. Connect it to your UCO account and complete a short test to confirm it works.

Before you begin: For these QR-code steps, open Security info on a computer and have your phone available for the app. If the app is already installed, you can add your UCO account without removing other accounts.

1. Choose Microsoft Authenticator

On Security info, select + Add sign-in method, then Microsoft Authenticator: “Approve sign-in requests or use one-time codes.”

Several choices may mention Authenticator. These steps use the notification-and-code option. The Passkey in Microsoft Authenticator option uses the same app but follows different prompts for face recognition, a fingerprint, or a device PIN.

Select Microsoft Authenticator for the steps in this guide.

2. Get the app ready

If needed, install the app using the Apple or Android links on Microsoft’s download page.

Open the app and complete any introductory screens. Allow notifications if prompted. On the computer, select Next.

Install or open the app, then select Next on the computer.

3. Add your UCO account in the app

On your phone, select + or Add account → Work or school account → Scan QR code. A new installation may offer Scan QR code directly. Allow camera access if prompted.

On the computer’s Set up your account in app screen, select Next.

Prepare the account in the app, then continue on the computer.

4. Scan the QR code

Use the scanner in Authenticator to scan the code displayed on your computer. Wait for the account to be added, then select Next on your computer.

If scanning does not work, select Can’t scan the QR code? and follow the alternative instructions.

Scan the code from your own session. This example is obscured.

5. Approve the test request

Note the number on the computer’s Let’s try it out screen. Open the Authenticator request on your phone, enter that number, and approve the request. Complete any device-unlock confirmation.

Enter the number shown on your computer in the phone’s approval request.

6. Finish and check your methods

When Authenticator Added appears, select Done. Confirm that Microsoft Authenticator is listed on Security info.

Setup is complete when the test succeeds and the method is listed. Installing the app alone does not complete registration.

Select Done after the successful test.
Microsoft Authenticator now appears in the list of methods.

Only approve requests you start. Approve a request only when you are signing in or completing setup yourself.

During UCO’s transition, employees may still receive Duo requests for some services.

Add personal email address

Use a personal email address you can access independently of your UCO account. The Email option in Security info is described as “Receive a code to reset your password.”

Choose Email to add an address for password recovery.

The Email option is below Microsoft Authenticator. Use a personal address that you can access independently of UCO.

  1. On Security info, select + Add sign-in method.
  2. Choose Email and continue to the email-entry screen.
  3. Enter your personal email address. This cannot be an @uco.edu address.
  4. Select Next to send a verification code.
  5. Open your personal email and find the Microsoft verification message. Check your junk or spam folder if needed.
  6. Enter the code on the setup page and complete the confirmation steps.
  7. Check that the email address is now listed on Security info.

Your personal email supports password recovery. Adding it does not connect Microsoft Authenticator to your account or make email available for every MFA sign-in.

Update information you have already saved

Return to Security info whenever your recovery email, device, or other verification information changes.

Find the method you want to update. Available actions vary by method.

Select Change beside a method where available. Add and test a replacement before deleting a working method.

  1. Open your Security info page.
  2. Find the email address, phone number, or other method you need to update.
  3. Select Change, where available.
  4. Enter the updated information and complete the verification requested. For a phone or email change, enter the code sent to the new phone number or email address.
  5. Confirm that the updated information appears on the page.

The choices shown depend on your account and the method. If you are adding another available method, select + Add sign-in method and follow its setup prompts.

When you replace a phone or other device

Keep the old device available while you add and verify the method on your new device. Once you have confirmed the replacement works, select Delete beside the old method if you no longer need it.

If the old device is unavailable and you cannot complete sign-in, contact the UCO Service Desk.

If you use a key fob

For compatible key-fob registration, replacement, or availability, see Microsoft MFA at UCO or contact the Service Desk.

How this connects to password recovery

Security info stores the methods Microsoft uses to verify your identity. Some methods support sign-in, some support password recovery, and some support both.

Microsoft self-service password reset requires at least two registered verification methods. Review and maintain your information while you can still sign in so it is available when you need it.

To change or reset your password, follow Password Reset for UCO Accounts. Security Info is where you manage verification methods; it is not the password-reset form.

Other university contact information

Updating Security info does not update your contact information in Paycom, Central Alerts, or other university systems. Updating those records does not automatically update your Microsoft verification methods.

For Central Alerts or emergency contact information, follow the separate Emergency Contact Information instructions.

Need help?

If setup times out, close the setup window, reopen Security info, and try again. If a method or option is missing, or the process does not complete, contact the Service Desk.
