Annotations for Assessing Assignment Submission: Learn@UCO

Description

Instructors can provide feedback directly on submitted assignments in the Assignments folder using Annotation Tools. The Annotation toolbar can add annotations to the assignment and allow instructors to publish the annotation as well. At this time, students can only view the annotations in D2L OR download the PDF. This tool can be used on a tablet or on a computer.

Annotation Tools:

  • Highlighter / pen
  • Comment bubbles (scroll over bubble to view contents)
  • Lines / arrows / shapes
  • Line Features: Strikeout, underline, highlight
  • Additional features: size of font, line thickness, alignment, font style, zoom, fit to page
  • Erasor

Instructions

Markup Text Documents

  1. From the course Assignments page, tap/click the assignment you want to evaluate.
  2. Inside the assignment folder, select a submission to open it.
  3. Long press a location or click where there is no text, then:
    1. Tap/Click Note. Enter your text. Tap/Click Save.
    2. Tap/Click Drawing. Draw with your finger. With the drawing selected, tap Style to change the properties of the pencil.
    3. Tap/Click Eraser to erase existing annotations.
  4. Long press a location or click where there is text, then:
    1. Tap/Click Copy to copy the text to your clipboard.
    2. Tap/Click Highlight. With the annotated text selected, select any of the corresponding options to attach a note, change the style, copy to clipboard, change the type of annotation or delete.
    3. Tap/Click Strikeout. With the annotated text selected, select any of the corresponding options to attach a note, change the style, copy to clipboard, change the type of annotation or delete.
    4. Tap/Click Underline. With the annotated text selected, select any of the corresponding options to attach a note, change the style, copy to clipboard, change the type of annotation or delete.

To remove an Annotation mark:

  1. Click to select an annotation mark.
  2. A trash can icon displays in the upper right on the toolbar. Click icon.
  3. Click the “OK” button.

Publish or Save Draft:

  1. You can Save Draft to save the annotations that have already been made but prevent the student from seeing the annotations yet.
  2. Click Publish when you have finished and want the student to see the annotation.
  3. Once an annotation has been published, instructors can make alterations to existing or make additional notes onto the submitted assignments.

Notes

  • In image documents, the only annotation actions available are Note, Drawing, and Eraser.
