Introduction
Upon the conclusion of a for-credit course at UCO, instructors are required to submit final grades for each student to the UCO Student Information System, Ellucian Banner. Only grades submitted to Banner are included in a student's transcript as Banner is the official system of record for grades and is directly connected to a student's transcript and schedule. Instructors may submit their final grades directly into Banner using the UCONNECT widget or may submit grades from the D2L course shell directly into the associated Banner CRN without needing to access UCONNECT directly.
This article provides a step-by-step guide for instructors on how to submit final grades from D2L to Banner. For instructions on submitting grades to UCONNECT, please visit the UCONNECT - Using Faculty Resources knowledge base article.
Submit Final Grades from D2L Course to Banner
Important Notes: PLEASE READ FIRST!
- Prior to submitting your final grades from within your D2L course shell, it is important to verify that the grades are ready to be submitted to a student's transcript.
- Keep in mind that final grades are not available to be submitted until the last weeks or days of the course depending on course length. If grades are not being accepted in Banner, you will receive a submission error in D2L.
- As the course instructor, you are not required to use the grade export/submit feature within D2L and you may choose to submit grades directly using UCONNECT if you so choose.
- You will have a chance to review and edit grades prior to submitting the grades to Banner from a preview window in D2L.
- You can resubmit grades from D2L to Banner at any time, until grading closes in Banner.
- You can edit grades directly in UCONNECT for your course, regardless if you originally submitted grades from D2L or UCONNECT; as long as the grading period for courses in Banner is still open.
- Only final grades that have been released can be transferred from D2L to Banner. To learn how to release your grades, refer to the Release Final Grades knowledge base article.
- D2L will only release one type of final grade, either Calculated or Adjusted. To learn more about these options and how to switch between these two choices, please refer to the knowledge base article.
- A confirmation will be available after submitting grades via D2L that will inform you of any errors encountered during the process. A list of common errors and their solutions can be found at the bottom of this article.
Instructions
- Access your course in D2L and navigate to the Grades tool in the navigation bar.
- From the Enter Grades tab, click the Export Grades to SIS button at the top of the page.

- Select your Export Grades As *while D2L will always use the final grade column, this field allows you to choose what type of grade this is on the student's official record in Banner such as mid-term or final. Final Grade may be the only option available.*

- D2L will only transfer grades that have been released in the course shell. If you have unreleased grades, they will be marked as "not ready to send". To learn how to release or hide your grades, refer to the Release Final Grades knowledge base article.

- Make any adjustments to the grade being sent to Banner using the edit icon in the Override column, type in the number of the grade Banner should receive, and click Apply.
- When you are ready to submit the grades to Banner, click Export All Grades.

- The system will process the grades prior to sending them on to Banner. You can navigate away from the page while this process is running and return at any time by clicking Export Grades to SIS on the Enter Grades tab in the Grades tool.

- If any of the information is incorrect or does not align with the information in Banner, an error message will be displayed to provide additional details on the issue. A list of common errors and their solutions can be found at the bottom of this article.
- Once the grades have been successfully submitted, you will receive a confirmation notification.
- Repeat these steps as many times as necessary during the open grading period or log in to UCONNECT to manage final course grades there.
